Where have you been?

1 Where have you been?

Working at Square Kipper co.uk…

A lot of people have asked me what work I have been doing recently. In October 2009 I was contacted by a small e-commerce company, called Square Kipper, based in Sandy village in Bedfordshire. They had asked me to help with their eBay shops design. This turned out to be a quick and enjoyable job that lasted a week whilst I worked out how their template provider frooition had created the posting templates for individual items.

After finishing their eBay shop design, I then began work on their company Logo and branding designs, which they subsequently used. You can see the results below.

I am no stranger to dedicated ‘in-house’ working, as I have previously worked for a few local small design houses as staff support for companies such as Hj Solutions and Skinny Dog. I enjoy the change in workflow rate that results and the opportunity to work directly with people, as opposed to being on the end of email or phone contact with clients.

When the company branding work was finished I was asked to advise on the look and feel of the new e-commerce website which was being developed and integrated by prime eBay shop and e-commerce designers frooition. The websites stock control was handled by Channel Adviser

I also offered my help on the integration work that needed to be done between the asp.net design and the Channel Adviser stock system. This turned out to be a job that took many weeks to finish, owing to the very complicated system that had thousands of parameters and features needing consideration. There were multiple style sheets, asp. config apps and worst of all the dreaded xml packages, all which needed to be fixed!

As the work continued I began to really enjoy the challenges that had been set by the Square Kipper company director and I was able to reflect on how much I was learning about e-commerce from learning about Google analytics conversion rates, keywords and how to write pay per click campaigns to effective banner advertising. I am still working as a freelancer on this job and am not a permanent staff member. The work continued into 2010 looking at new sales avenues and integrations with Pixmania, Microsoft ad center and parcel tracking and reporting software Metapack.

Whilst I work on this project my work with Lovely Ladies in Business and Portfolio Promotions continues, alongside work completed on projects for We are another us and nlpbook.

Overall, 2009 was a good year for me; I’d like to give my thanks to those who have supported my business in my first year with good leads, referrals or given valuable advice such as John Sherwood at Travis Bead and Steve Whiting from Sub@omic, as well as to friends and family, who have helped keep my spirits up.

To infinity and beyond!
